The Book: Alfie's Home
The Gist: A child's book about an abusive household.
Why It's Creepy: This
book will instill fear into any kid who has an uncle Pete. The
story follows Alfie, a young boy, who has a pretty terrible life. His
parent's fight all the time. His dad doesn't pay enough attention to
him and he feels neglected. His Uncle Pete molests him. He gets teased
in school because people think he is gay. Poor Alfie has it pretty
bad.
I can't imagine reading this book to a any child, any time. I can't think of a time and place where it would be appropriate. Do you really think another "Alfie" would feel better after reading this? What about the non "Alfies"?
